Why Posture Deteriorates During Desk Work

Your spine has three natural curves — the cervical lordosis (inward curve of the neck), thoracic kyphosis (outward curve of the upper back), and lumbar lordosis (inward curve of the lower back). The Limits of Chair-Based Posture Correction

Let’s be honest: an ergonomic chair supports good posture, but it can’t do everything on its own. You also need to work on a few things away from the chair.

Your core and upper back muscles (rhomboids, lower trapezius, deep cervical flexors) need to be strong enough to hold alignment in the first place. Tight chest muscles, hip flexors, and hamstrings should be stretched regularly. It helps to check in with your posture a few times throughout the day. And remember that shifting positions regularly is healthier than holding one static pose, no matter how “perfect” it looks.
